The Asics Novablast 4 is one of the most versatile models of the Japanese brand. Not because they say so, but because I have been testing them in recent weeks on all types of shoots.
First I'm going to tell you the technical things: you will notice if you try it on, a fairly comfortable and light upper, very thin, that hugs the foot without feeling like it's superfluous. A little more padding in the collar, but without a too outlandish tongue: it has just enough to be comfortable without adding weight and fit well.
The midsole is very striking due to its geometric cuts and its 8 millimeter drop. The elevation in the heel stands out, but it accompanies a lot of running. It is made with a compound called FF Blast+, which provides the necessary cushioning but with a little response: a perfect combination.
The sole is drawn on the outside of the shoe and has a bump in the central area of the forefoot. The people at ASICS say that they were inspired by the design of a trampoline to make it, the truth is that you do notice that “bounce” when you run, as is my case, from midfoot forward.
And, once we have talked about the technical part (well, I needed to tell you that it weighs about 250 grams in size 9.5 American), I will tell you a little about the sensations:
- It seems to me to be a very versatile shoe, which can handle everything from easy runs to series at medium-high paces, even some long runs, maybe even half a marathon, if you are light and have a neutral footprint.
- I have felt protected when I have wanted to do recovery runs (because it cushions a little), fast when I have wanted to do not very long series, fartlek and hills (without having a carbon plate, obviously) and in general very comfortable in all conditions (even on wet asphalt, because I haven't slipped).
- I see it as a little limited both for doing very fast and short series and for doing very long shoots. I think I could compete in a half marathon with it, but I don't see myself doing a 25-30 kilometer run with them: I usually look for more cushioning than reactivity in those runs and the Nimbus 26 seems more suitable to me.
One of its advantages is the price since it is very low for a model that can solve many facets of your daily life as a runner. And, with a little luck, maybe you can get it discounted on a model from previous collections if it fits your size.
